I love fall. The cozy clothes, the cool weather and the beautiful colors! It's not technically fall yet, but I've been loving the early morning light on our walks. I've also been using my 50mm 1.8 lens a bit more than usual. I've been keeping as close to 1.8 as I can to take advantage of the super pretty bokeh!

It's been hot, and humid, and sticky and a little bit yucky these past few days which means that our woodsy walks have been earlier in the morning. The other day was a great day for dew covered spider webs which made me very happy (walking through a few of them made me less happy but it was worth it!) Here are a few that I spotted on our hike :)

I can't believe August is winding down, although I must admit that I'm looking forward to cool autumn days and big sweaters and mugs of cocoa! These next 2 weekends are going to be really busy market wise (yay!) and my fingers are crossed for great sales and great visits with great people! So let me tell you where you can find me!
Today: My little pop-up gallery will be open from 1-4! 1930 Rothesay Rd. Today only, all scarves, photos and monsters are 20% off (woo-hoo!) It's only 30sq feet in my entryway but it's cozy and I'll probably be playing 1980's rock ballads.
Saturday: I'll be at the ever so lovely Kingston Farmers Market from 8-1. It's a super fun way to spend a Saturday morning and they serve great breakfast!
Sunday: I'll be in my usual spot at the wonderful Queen Square Farmers Market. Queen Square is still under construction so we are temporarily located a block south at Rainbow Park!
So there you have it! My fingers are crossed that the rain stays away for us!
Now I have to make a very large coffee and start getting everything ready...I might need some chocolate too....and a bottle of wine for later....

Portraits have always been something that I've shied away from but I've been seeing a lot of fantastic work on some facebook groups that I'm a part of and it's inspired me to get out of my comfort zone a little bit! I have no desire to be a portrait photographer (unless it's for the furry 4 legged variety!) but I think it's good experience and great practice. I figured I'd start with a couple of self portraits and then periodically wrangle friends and family to be my models (whether they like it or not! haha) I took these ones of myself yesterday using my Canon T3i, 18-55mm kit lens and a remote shutter. They are quite close up because I liked the wood texture on my closet door and I didn't want to see any of the surrounding wall. I don't have any lights or external flashes so I used the natural light from my window and the flashlight from my iphone.
I thought I'd show the before and after so you can see what I did for editing. I started with a VSCO preset (I have the free pack that you can get from their website! I love it). Then I made some minor adjustments in Lightroom until I was happy with it. I'm turning 38 next week (aack) so I softened the skin a bit using the adjustment brush (bringing the clarity down to -25) and tweaked the shadows and contrasts and such. I darkened my lips in the second one by using the adjustment brush again and darkening the exposure on that specific area. It's not overly dramatic but I'm pretty happy with the results! Now it's time to convince my fella to sit for a photo...stay tuned!
Have a great day!
